Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Marie Elka Pangestu, said the year 2011 already there are 99 teams or foreign film producers will conduct filming in Indonesia.

“This year already there are 99 teams and foreign film producers to shoot in Indonesia and among which there are three feature films,” said Marie Elka Pangestu in Jakarta, Thursday (10/11/2011).

It expects demand for widescreen shooting from the producer is expected to continue to rise. Expected next year there are about 10-15 big screen producer of box office that producers will make shooting in Indonesia.

“Three big screen movie-going shooting in Indonesia, namely the Philoshoper, Java Heat and I, Alex Cross. This I expect will give a tremendous impact,” he said.

Marie gave an example from Ubud, Bali, the filming location of Eat, Pray and Love the area visited by many tourists.

“I even went to Ketut Lier (one of the characters in the film) and was surprised such a long queue,” he said.

According to him, the film is very effective as a medium for explaining the traditions and way of life in a country. He welcomed the growing film industry in the country as part of the creative industries. It recorded five years ago the share of domestic films only 40% and is now grown to 60%. In addition, spectators prosesntase meninati film in the country only 40% now grown to 60%.

In terms of number, this year has reached 69 films and hit record in 2008 as many as 80 movie titles, whereas in 2001 only four films.

Minister Marie said the film would be very effective as a means of cultural promotion, including selling and introducing filming location for both ASEAN members and stakeholders of international films.

“Some ASEAN countries have long used as a filming location movie box office world. Indonesia is now also being ogled by some foreign producers,” he said.

It says it wants to expand cooperation and sharing of information because Indonesia has great potential to serve as the filming location of the destination country. The effort was necessary in order to film Indonesia also be promoted more aggressively and in turn will attract foreign tourists to visit Indonesia.
